Welcome to my website.
I’m Sarah Poat and I am a watercolour artist from Devon.
Painting at Devon Open Studios
I love to celebrate the British wild flowers and plants that I find whilst walking in the countryside in South Devon and on Dartmoor. In just a short stretch of hedgerow there can be an amazing variety of colours and forms to be seen! Often I depict plants and flowers growing in their natural habit- cheek by jowl; intertwined. I also paint landscapes, natural history subjects and abstracts.
I have several paintings included in 'Exotic Botanical Illustration' (2012) and 'Botanical Illustration for beginners: a step-by-step guide' (2015), both written by Rosie Martin and Meriel Thurstan.
I am a member of the South West Society of Botanical Artists (SWSBA). In 2018 I exhibited as part of a SWSBA group at the RHS in London and we were awarded a silver medal for Botanical Art.
I am currently working on several paintings and hoping to exhibit at the RHS Botanical Art Show by 2020. My exhibition title is 'Moor to Sea' and will illustrate a number of the plants that grow within the different habitats that the River Dart flows through from where it rises on Dartmoor to its end at Dartmouth on the coast. The habitats will include bog/mire, ancient woodland, moorland, hedgerow, farmland, urban and coast.
I have been exhibiting with the Manaton Makers at Devon Open Studios since 2014. Devon Open Studios is from Saturday 8th to Sunday 23rd September 2018. The Manaton Makers will be exhibiting at The Gallery Barn, Ullacombe Farm, Haytor Road, Near Bovey Tracey, TQ13 9LL.
I hope you enjoy the website! Sarah Poat
